NHS Kent and Medway need your help to make urgent care services work better for everyone living in Medway and Swale.
Medway and Swale has the following urgent treatment services available:
Minor injury unit co-located with Emergency Department and minor illness unit at Medway Hospital
Sittingbourne MIU at Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital
Sheppey MIU at Sheppey Community Hospital
GP Walk-in Centre at Sheppey Community Hospital run by Minster Medical Group
Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) or Minor Injury Units (MIUs) are an integral part of urgent care. They help remove demand from Emergency Departments and provide access to a range of services closer to home.
We asked for your views and experiences of using UTCs or MIUs so we can focus on what matters most to you when accessing these services. We want to help make sure the people of Medway and Swale have access to the right services in the right place and as locally as possible.
What you told us
We ran a survey from March until May 2024. Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback with us.
You told us the following points were important to you:
Access to Care: People want to be seen quickly when they need help.
Quality of Care: People want good care from the right people.
Fairness: People want everyone to get the same care no matter where they live or who they are.
Communication: People want to know what to expect and to be told clearly what is happening before, during and after they have been seen.
Recommendations for Improvement
Make sure all places that offer urgent care give the same good service.
Tell people clearly how long they might have to wait and what will happen next.
Train staff to be not just skilled at their jobs, but also friendly and welcoming to everyone they help
Help people know where to go for the right care.
Tell people about other places they can go for help, like pharmacies.
We will use this information to make sure everyone gets the help they need quickly and fairly. We want to make sure that everyone knows where to go for help when they need it.
