Ophthalmology (eye services) in north Kent (28 June to 30 September 2021)
Thank you to everyone in Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley, Medway, Sittingbourne and Isle of Sheppey who shared their experience of using ophthalmology (eye care) services in 2021.
Following Moorfields Eye Hospital decision to end ophthalmology (eye care) services at Darent Valley Hospital in September 2020, temporary arrangements were put place with Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW), so that services were provided for any patient who wanted to receive services in Kent.
Patients were also offered the chance to stay with Moorfield and receive services in South London.
NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)* worked with MTW to gather patient experience and views on the interim service, to evaluate the impact, and to use the patients’ insight in planning for the long-term future of services
People who has used the service between May 2021 and July 2021 were invited to share their views via:
an online survey
printed surveys returnable by FREEPOST.
A telephone number was also available for anyone who wished to complete the survey via telephone. Larger print was also available on request.
More than 700 people responded to the survey, which ran from 28 June 2021 until 30 September 2021.
This feedback will be considered and taken into account in securing a long-term provider for these services.
Note: NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) ceased to exist as a statutory organisation in July 2022. The CCG's responsibilities now sit with NHS Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB).
