DMC Healthcare held a contract to provide GP services at Iwade Health Centre, which was due to end on 31 March 2022.
As the contract had been extended a number of times, NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)* needed to make a longer-term commissioning decision.
Recognising the importance of having a local GP practice in Iwade, the CCG committed to considering options for a long-term replacement, with like-for-like services at the health centre.
All 5,916 patients registered at the practice were sent a letter on Monday, 8 November 2021 asking them to take part in an engagement process.
Feedback from patients was collected via:
a survey (online and paper copies)
An online meeting was offered but due to low uptake, this was cancelled and patients were contacted individually and offered a focus group session.
There were 204 responses to the survey, with another 56 people who partially completed the survey and did not submit their responses.
Feedback via the survey, email, mail and social media all contributed to shaping the proposal for the future provision of GP services at this location.
* Note: NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) ceased to exist as a statutory organisation in July 2022. The CCG’s responsibilities now sit with NHS Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB).

We considered this feedback alongside other influencing factors, such as GP practice engagement. This was considered by the CCG’s Primary Care Commissioning Committee (PCCC) at its meeting on Thursday, 16 December 2021 alongside feedback from other stakeholders.
The committee approved the decision to carry out an assurance process for the GP practice. This process is still ongoing and patients will be sent a letter with a full update, guidance and next steps.
